Flambeau Inc. is marking its 75th anniversary — still under the ownership of the same family — and focusing its celebration on its employees.

The injection and blow molder in Baraboo, Wis., is hosting employee appreciation events such as giveaways, trivia contests, awards and dinners.

"It's not just about celebrating a 75th anniversary; it's one thing to exist for that amount of time, which is significant, and it's very rare that business lasts that long," said Jason Sauey, president and CEO of Flambeau. "But what's more important is what are we doing to create greater duration going forward."

Being family-owned, the company has been able to focus on the long-term impacts of its decisions and plans. It also believes in managing business with strong financial support.

"It's not just for our family; it's about the families of everybody who works for us and trying to help them do what's right for their families," Sauey said. "We want to create a workplace that is respectful to the people who work for our company."

Family is set as the company's top core value, and it also tries to show its appreciation through rewards with its Flambeau's GEM Award Program. GEM stands for "going the extra mile," and the award can be presented to any associate that is demonstrating a positive attitude and respect as well as the core values of the company.

The company also recognizes employees by having the quarter-century club, acknowledging employees that have been working there for 25 years or more.

The Flambeau Inc. charitable donation policy helps provide scholarships to students and donates in communities of their facilities. It also contributes to providing funds to assist preserving the free-market system. Flambeau sets aside a portion of this profits each year to contribute to the foundation.

Flambeau does propriety molding and started out by making its first product, a frog-shaped fishing lure. The company then moved on to create housewares like tumblers and cutting boards. It also owns the brand Duncan Toys with its yo-yos, and it owns ArtBin, used for craft storage products.

"We build molds, we design products, we design molds, we source molds, and we also build finishing automation assembly work cells. We do that internally so we can provide customers with a full turnkey solution for a wide variety of contracts applications," Sauey said. "Flambeau is about evenly split between injection molding and blow molding."

Flambeau is ranked 20th in the Plastics News North American blow molders ranking with $155 million in sales. It is ranked 62nd in the PN injection molders ranking with $160 million in sales. It is No. 56 in the PN mold makers ranking with $10 million in sales.
